I recently stumbled across a band from Siberia that is quite literally rocking my world… Otyken. They seamlessly integrate traditional aboriginal and modern instrumentation and kick ass arrangement. Just to help place Otyken genre-wise, I kinda hear some resonance with the British & Irish band, Idles.

As I read somewhere, the name “Otyken” originates from the Chulym language, and is the native name for their land, roughly translated into English as “a sacred site for warriors.” They preform in the Russian, Khakas, and Chulym languages. And at least according to the Otyken website one can hear the “great history of Siberian aboriginal’s national crafts.” I love the little bit I’ve heard so far.

Everyone once in a while something comes along and just blows one’s mind. This is one of those moments for me.

Give’m a listen.

Peace, dwight

Otyken
