Eight years ago, when my son celebrated his 13th birthday we created and engaged a Coming of Age ritual which involved a number of elements; one of which was a barrel of local moonshine.
On his 13th birthday we barreled the moonshine inaugurating the long aging process. It takes time and patience to transform the raw bite of young moonshine into smooth, mature, and nuanced whiskey. This process was meant to symbolize the “now and not yet” of adulthood that are the teen years. The whiskey was his, yet required care, wisdom, intention, and time… lots of time.
Well today is Pascal’s 21st birthday. He is a beautiful man, and so easy to celebrate! My “little boy” is all grown up and so fully his own person… he is ready! He is kind! He is thoughtful! He has Come of Age… the whiskey too. Its bottled, labeled, and ready to celebrate him. Happy birthday my son!
I love you Pascal.
Peace, dwight
