I’ve been reading, rereading, and listening to others’ reading many of Meister Eckhart’s works over the past year. I have come to sense that reading – especially out loud – is itself a great hermeneutical act. I love hearing other people read texts upon which I have mediated. They invariably read it differently than I, and therefore open the text in fresh, surprising, and glorious ways.

I’ve included a few YouTube videos of other people reading some of Eckhart’s writings.

“I pray God, rid me of God!”

Meister Eckhart

The older I get the more I long to know the Divine who is. All of my experience of God, study of Scripture, and attention to theological traditions opens me up to discover the God beyond the study, beyond the words, beyond the Bible, beyond my idea of God. Toward this relational encounter with the Divine I find Eckhart a wise guide.

Peace, dwight
