Africans sensed in their hearts that Jesus did not mock their respect for the sacred or their clamor for an invincible Savior, so they beat their sacred drums for him until the stars skipped and danced in the skies. After that dance the stars weren’t little anymore. Christianity helped Africans to become renewed Africans, not remade Europeans.

Lamin Sanneh

Saddened to learn of the sudden death of Dr. Lamin Sanneh. He passed away on January 6, 2019, he was 76 years old.

Born and raised a Muslim in The Gambia, Lamin Sanneh converted to Christianity, and went on to study Christian theologies earning his PhD at the University of London. He spent more than 30 years teaching at Yale Divinity School where he held the  D. Willis James Professor of Missions and World Christianity chair.

A prolific author he wrote or co-wrote about 20 books and published well over 200 articles or chapters. I have assigned a number of his works in classes I’ve taught.
