Prince’s latest release contains the track to the above video… “Baltimore.” This song holds the memory of Freddie Gray and his killing at the hands of the Baltimore police department. We all know that Mr. Gray was not killed because he had a knife, he was black and in Baltimore.

Not long ago I read, Not in My Neighborhood: How Bigotry Shaped a Great American City, by Antero Pietila which digs into the racialized history of Baltimore, especially targeted toward black and Jewish peoples. While the details of the narrative may be particular to Baltimore, the narrative arc continues to be played out across this country. How long, O Lord, How long?
