It was a friend’s birthday yesterday.  Her birthday was forever changed three years ago.  As you know, yesterday was the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks that we now simply refer to as 9-11.

Yesterday was also Jewish S’lichot in preparation for Rosh Hashana (new year’s day).  To mark the day I attended an interfaith service of forgiveness.  The gathering was organized by Rabbi Ted Falcon, Rev. Max Lafser, Buddhist Dharma teachers Joel and Michelle Levey, Rev. Don Mackenzie and Muslim minister Jamal Rahman.  I often feel a bit of an internal tension at events like this.  I love that the I am there, and that the different faiths are choosing connection but the blandness of Christ presented doesn’t feel good to me.  All the more reason to be present.

Yesterday Morning I had coffee with two Kiwi’s: Dave Tims and Dave Treeby, of Youth for Christ New Zealand.  They are half of a team of YFC leaders traveling the Western world talking with emerging leaders about the future of evangelism, discipleship, leadership and structure as expressed through YFC.  I’m a little jealous of their itinerary, between their two teams they will be interacting with 80 avant-ministries.

Today – I will be walking with the Mars Hill Graduate School faculty at convocation.  Kind of exciting for me – the first time I’ve had such a privilege.  I kinda wish I had my doctoral robe already.  O well, all in due time.

Peace, dwight
