OK, so I’m breaking my Sabbath. For a few years Saturdays have been days of rest which I have primarily defined as non-computer days for me; no email, no blogging, no writing, no browsing, no gaming, etc. Saturdays are family days, reading days, goof’n around days, yard work days, etc, but not today. I gotta get my grading done; it will take me a big chunk of next week too. Its for a class with about 45 students and as it happens two assignments were due on the same day – 90 theology papers in my inbox.
I love it when I see a student engaged in their work, and wrestling with concepts, or seeing something old through a new lens. I dislike reading fluff, like when a student writes a bunch of BS to fill page requirements; what a waste of everyone’s time. But not many do that, I find that at the graduate level most students are thoughtfully engaged.
Mars Hill Graduate School is a unique place and I wish that a seminary like it existed when I was doing my masters work. The emphasis on embodied relationality in text, soul and culture is freshingly timely.
Well, I had better get back to it.
Peace and rest on this Sabbath day,
dwight
