Was friend recently talking with a friend about the old saying which suggests that Christ-followers live in two worlds. Do we though? How are we to think about this?
I’m not sure we want to have one foot in each boat, as much as we invited to open up to the reality that there is only one boat – or maybe more accurately that there is no boat. The incarnate one didn’t live in two worlds, rather the Christ was two natures. To be in the world and not of it is to be in the world. I have a hard time imagining that we live in a parallel universe in some kind of dualistic sense – by faith I might wonder if we might live in a UNI-verse, a solar system centered on the Son (a little corny).
Neither “paradox” nor “both/and” do justice to the idea of Simultaneity. Its not, “Christ and culture in paradox,” its Christ and culture in relationship. That’s who we are. That’s incarnational living.
Peace, dwight
