I was saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis earlier today. He was 88 years old. Yet, I am grateful that he was able to participate in yesterday’s Easter service.
Pope Francis was born in Argentina as Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He joined the Jesuits in 1958, was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood in 1969, and became Pope Francis in March of 2013. He was the church’s first Latin American Pope.
No doubt there will be many tributes in the coming days, but here is one from the National Catholic Reporter.
