I am so, so, so grateful to Tripp, Tony, Josh, and all the funders of this podcast. What a gift! I can only imagine all the creative energy, conversations, and time invested… thank you! Emergent Village and the entire emerging church era were – and are – vital to my life and faith journey. It’s been so good to hear voices, to be reminded of faces, conversations, events, experiments, and even where I was.

Now, I’ve used this post differently than I usually do… every two weeks I updated this post with the latest Emerged Podcast episodes until the podcast series concluded. The final episode was released on May 6th, 2024. Emerged was a production of Homebrewed Christianity. I did this primarily for me… I wanted to have a record of this podcast on my blog.

I am grateful to say that I was part of this movement, and still find a measure of my identity and friendships from this important season. For all the criticism this movement received over the years, I found a home within it. I was even interviewed in episode three. But truly, it was this movement that helped me to know that I was not alone in my desire for a more authentic spirituality than had been handed to me in my conservative evangelical upbringing, or in my desire to participate in a community of faith & practice that was actually seeking to discover and live out a more faithful way of following Jesus into the everyday, ordinary stuff of life. I hold so much thankfulness for the people and local communities that were part of this movement.

And – for the record – I believe that the broader emergence movement is pointing toward a massive shift that we are still navigating. While the organization “Emergent Village” might no longer exist, Christ’s church is very much still emerging. To use Phyllis Tickle’s metaphor, the church and the Western world is still bringing junk out of its basement for its recurring, “rummage sale.”
