This lecture series is offered in honor of the great Stanley J. Grenz; former Professor at The Seattle School, (then known as Mars Hill Graduate School). Stan was a prolific Christian scholar with a pastoral heart and deep intellectual presence. He was a lover of Star Trek, wearer of t-shirts with goofy slogans, famous for going off on theological, philosophical, or ministry tangents… which we lovely called “Stan-gents.” Stan often opened his classes with his guitar in hand, leading students in singing a chorus or two. Stan played a huge role in my life as a pastor, scholar, teacher, and as a human being… I loved him. I still keep a photo of Stan above my desk. It’s hard to believe that March 11th will be 19 years since we lost him.

In Stan’s memory, each year The Seattle School hosts theological leaders and thinkers to advance theological discourse. This year we are thrilled to have New Testament scholar, author, and someone I am pleased to know as a friend… Dr Angela Parker is our featured Grenz Lecturer. Dr Parker is the author of, If God Still Breathes, Why Can’t I?: Black Lives Matter and Biblical Authority. Dr Parker’s topic for the evening is:
“America’s Failing Empire: A Womanist New Testament Response to Rising White Christian Nationalism.”
Angela’s lecture will be engaged by Dr David Leong and Dr Chelle Stearns, followed by an open Q&A. Join if you can, 5:30PM Pacific Time Tonight, January 12, 2024 at The Seattle School campus in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. For more information click here!
