They grow up so fast! The Seattle School is celebrating twenty-five years of training people to be competent in the study of text, soul, and culture in order to serve God and neighbor through transforming relationships. And last night the school hosted its first ever, formal benefit dinner… a gala of sorts.
If you have ever been on-campus at The Seattle School then you well know that people dress very much “west coast casual.” But last night there was no flannel or gore tex to be found… not even a pair of jeans or Doc Martens. Seeing everybody all dressed up and in the red brick building was almost surreal. There were a few people I didn’t even recognize at first sight.
The fact that our little school is still here is remarkable. There have been a few seasons when all signs pointed toward updating my CV, if you know what I mean? But we’re here! How cool is that?
We’re looking toward 50… our future year of Jubilee… I will be 79 years old. So weird! There is a slight chance I could be there for that too. I kinda like that the graphic the school used resembles a cigar band… cigars have played an all too important role in my work here; if I wanna be there for the 50th cigars may be just one of the many changes to consider. In January I will be celebrating my 20th year as part of this learning community, where does the time go?
We’re on a learning journey, we are celebrating Divine faithfulness and the resilience of our mission, our relationships, and our ever expanding imagination of God’s shalom for all & everything.
Peace, dwight
