March is Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month is an annual declared month set aside to highlight the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. What we now know as the month long observation in the USA, began as Women’s History week in a county in California in 1978 as an intentional extension of International Women’s Day (March 8th).
It’s been estimated that roughly one percent of recorded history focuses on the unique contributions of women even though half the world’s population identifies as female.
I have put together a little Women’s History Month Theologians Calendar. For each day in March I have highlighted a living theologian, a theologian from history (recent or ancient), and a faith ancestor from Hebrew or Christian Scripture. There is no real order to the list, nor can it be comprehensive, and I listed just one of each theologians’ written works. I have simply highlighted three women for each day to hold in my heart with gratitude.
Peace, dwight
