This coming Sunday is Quest’s “Open Mic.” As you may know, we gather on the third Sunday of each month to offer an expression of the work of our hearts, hands, minds, and voices. We seek to offer these expressions as an act of worship and joining together.
Our spiritual ancestors would sometimes talk about everyone in their communities “bringing a song, hymn, or spiritual song” to share with one another . . . that’s ground of our inspiration. In a spirit of generosity we offer gifts of our creativity to one another.
We do not expect everyone to share something at every Open Mic. We acknowledge that it is normal to participate in a few of them before a person may feel comfortable to offer something. Every person is on a journey. We bless those journeys, we bless your journey. Everyone has stories, is full of ideas, and is alive with a spark of imagination and as a collective we desire to draw this out, and offer it gift to ourselves, one another, and to the Divine.
While the sky is the limit, in terms of what you might bring, please keep in mind that we are an intergenerational community. As a way of reference people have brought story telling prompts, movement exercises, and art projects for us to engage. Others have brought baking, quilts, poems, prayers, readings, stories, knitting, collage, songs, crafts, art, carvings, artifacts from their childhood, short videos, dances, etc. Some have brought projects from their work lives they were proud of, or produce from their gardens, or taught us new songs. This is not a talent show nor is it a competition. Rather its a “Stone Soup” gathering comprised of nothing but we choose to bring to each other. Everyone is welcome, and all are invited to share something. We find it is a lovely way of offering our faith community a glimpse into how we see the world and in the process we are seen and blessed.
This Sunday night, November19,2006, @ 4:00-6:00PM.
