Goshen College history professor, John D. Roth recently delivered one of the C. Henry Smith Lectures. A .pdf of his lecture is available here, “Called to One Peace: Christian Faith and Political Witness in a Divided Culture“.
Written by and to Mennonites I commend it to all – Anabaptist and beyond – desirous of proactive non-violent action.
Peace, dwight
peace thru division
Fascinating lecture, and a helpful exhortation to all followers of Christ. Roths concluding remarks are especially powerful.
" that allegiance to the body of Christ comes before all other allegiances" — just one of several points that seemed to jump out.
Thanks for drawing attention to the lecture.
Dwight,
Powerful sermon/speech. Really provocative idea. When our advocacy does not come out of our congregational experience, it becomes problematic. We can’t ask the state to do what we are unwilling to do in our own faith communities. He has the right set of priorities. A good word. Thanks for calling it to our attention.
Peace,
Ryan
