Todd Trembley – who is fast becoming one of my favorite people – is also one of the most creative thinkers I know. He’s got me thinking about Satan… of all things!
Could it be that Satan is the ultimate nihilist, who if given the chance would rather not do anything because “Satan” knows that whatever “he” does God will use for glory – thus Satan avoids action whenever possible.
Is God beyond good and evil? I think God probably is.
Some might say that “good” as we understand it is a social construct. Others might say that “good” as we understand it exists because of a divine declaration in creation… “it is good!” Does this mean that “good” is part of the created order? This could also suggest that God may have created evil, because by defining what is good, anything that does not meet the definition of “good” is evil.
Is God subject to that which God creates? Is God beyond good and evil? Do both good and evil accomplish God’s purposes? If they do then Satan would be wise to avoid action.
Peace, dwight
