In deep partnership with the Parish Collective (the same partnership hosting the Inhabit Conference) The Seattle School has recently announced a new think-tank for leaders seeking integrate mission and formation. The Leadership in the New Parish think-tank is open to ministry leaders who are seeking to deepen their personal practices of holistic-place-based living and seeking to guide their church/organization into even deeper missional practices within their neighborhood. It is open to leaders – regardless of their educational background – the only requirement is the longing to enter into a peer learning environment to deepen our practices rooting in place. The think-tank functions as certificate program earning leaders continuing education units.

I only wish that a such a program existed when I was church-planting and leading the missional community.

We’ve recently begun to accept applications.

April 20-21, 2012, Seattle, WA

Last year the Inhabit Conference “Sold Out!” Hundreds of parish leaders gathered to celebrate the move toward a more embodied, participatory, and sustainable way of being the church. This incarnational awakening is calling forth important new questions about leadership: What does leadership look like in the new parish? How might we form collaborative, ecumenical, and holistic practices that knit together justice, relationships of trust, and spiritual vitality?

Ultimately, how can we lead in a way that empowers others to join together on behalf of the reconciliation and renewal of livable places? Join us for Inhabit 2012 as we gather practitioners from across the country to uncover the practicalities of sustainable ministry leadership for the 21st century parish.

Register today for only $99!

We’re so excited about the Inhabit Conference this year, we wanted to let a few in early. Hurry, only 100 seats available at this rate!

I’m excited to inform you that as of the beginning of last week we officially changed the name of our school – Mars Hill Graduate School is now The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. The staff has been hard at work these past months as we prepared for this change. Official documents were changed, governing bodies were notified, a new web domain was secured, email addresses updated, stationery was designed and ordered, and as you can see we have updated our brand to better reflect our identity.

Our new name will now carry our important mission and work into the future. And may God continue to bless our efforts to train people to be competent in the study of text, soul and culture in order to serve God and neighbor through transforming relationships.

Important Info:

Our new web address is theseattleschool.edu

Email addresses: First Initial Last Name @theseattleschool.edu – emails sent to @mhgs.edu will be forwarded on for several months.

Building signage updates are coming this week.

For short, please utilize “The Seattle School” as opposed to our new initials TSS or TSSTP.

Parishioners are returning to the parish. The greater our individual mobility extends, the greater the world’s longing and need for a faith that can be lived out collectively – where we can be present… where there is an embodied practice… where the gospel becomes tangible in a particular place. This emerging pattern of local practice, presence, and place is the theme of Inhabit.

This gathering will bring together innovative missional practitioners from neighborhoods across the country to empower, encourage, and engage each other around practicing the way of Jesus in place.

Mar Hill Graduate School, Parish Collective and TransFORM are putting this event together with the support of many other organizations.

Speakers, facilitators & workshops leaders include: Majora Carter, Brenda Salter McNeil, Bruce Reyes-Chow, David Fitch, Kathy Escobar,Tony Kriz, Rose Swetman, mark Scandrette, Tim Condor, Karen Wilk, Anothy Smith, Tom Sine, Clark Blakeman, Ron Czecholinski, Brandon Rhodes, and more.

I hope to see you there.

What does it mean for Christians to be salt and light in this acrimonious cultural climate? How might Christians live faithfully without colluding with partisan shouting? Are there more productive atheisms and theisms than we find in their contemporary resurgent forms? How do we understand the rise of the current “God debate,” and is there a third way beyond it?

Come join Jon in exploring how Christian faith can be a source of hospitality rather than hostility, one that opens a space for meaningful conversation between religious and secular people, and increased traffic between religious and secular thought, in our pluralistic society.
